"Obambi" wants to kiss all the evil people on both cheeks and hope they reciprocate.
The last president to try something similar was Jimmy Carter. Carter wanted to revamp US foreign policy to make it more focused on diplomacy rather than military power - sound familar?
When Carter tried to kiss the Russian bear on the cheek, the Russion bear invaded Afganistan. This was after the Cuban's had intervened in Angola and other parts of Africa to prop up left wing regimes. Carter also planned to pull all US troop out of South Korea and drastically reduce them in Europe during the cold war, though his adminstration later backed down off of that pledge.
Carter continued in a similar fashion in Iran. The shah was being over thrown. We could have tried to prop him up or encouraged a Iranian military coup, but Carter thought our relations with Iran would be best if we didn't interfere. Of course the Iranians returned the favor by taking our embassy personnel hostage for a couple of years. The hostages were not released until President Reason was elected. Iran is still probably the worst problem we have in the middle east today.
Even when look at oil independence, the Carter model for "Obambi" is clear. Carter instituted a windfall profits tax on oil companies, as "Obambi" is proposing. It didn't reduce the price of gasoline at the pump, it increased it as oil companies passed along the windfall profits tax to consumers. Oil companies also reduced their drilling and exploration for oil, recognizing that they wouldn't reap the benefits of increased oil production. Why does "Obambi" want to increase the taxes paid by US oil companies? He thinks they don't pay enough. But for every dollar of profit by Exxon, they pay three dollars in taxes. The high taxes oil companies are already paying haven't reduced the price of gasoline.
"Obambi" doesn't care if his policy prescriptions have been tried and failed in the past. Neither do his supporters. "Obambi's" supporters want change. But do you want to go back to the failure of the Carter Adminstration?
